Born and raised a Roman Catholic, my first introduction to the Episcopal Church was in 1967 when my future husband (who passed away in 2013) and I visited Grace Church in Colorado Springs hoping to find a church where we could worship together. I will never forget that stunning and transformative spiritual experience: beautiful liturgy, organ, choir, preaching! We were married at Grace and never looked back.

Wayne’s career as an international accountant for the Department of Defense took us to Spain for three years, where our two children were born. In our enclave in the beautiful rural area where we lived, we formed our own worship community (no building, no priest) with friends from every worship tradition: Baptist, Nazarene, Methodist, Catholic, Episcopal, etc. That ecumenical experience indelibly influenced me. The Episcopal Church, led by our bishop Michael Curry, continues to challenge me to increasing inclusivity!

I have a BA in English and Secondary Education from the University of Colorado and an MA in Communication from the University of Northern Colorado and spent 41 years teaching English, speech, and reading to middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students. I am finally retired and enjoy reading, visiting my condo in beautiful Cuchara, enjoying family and friends, attending cultural events, and rooting for the Rockies!

Intercession has been my home for 44 years, and, of course, I have been involved in many ways: educational steward, bishop’s committee, pastoral care, faith formation, library, etc. My passion, however, is serving as board president of Footprints Daycare, Preschool, and Kindergarten, a ministry of Intercession for 20 years. In partnership with the Temple Buell Foundation, we provide childcare to families in our community believing that Christ is calling us to serve the most vulnerable among us: CHILDREN, all of whom deserve equal access to an affordable, quality early learning experience.

Connie Bonnell

Bishop’s Warden

Intercession has been my church home since 2000. I was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 1960 at St. Marks in Denver.

I retired from Samsonite Corporation where I worked for 38 years as a supervisor and lead operator. During those years I raised two daughters.

In my spare time I was the Unit Coordinator for 23 Girl Scout troops. I held this position for 25 years and was recognized by Girls Scouts of Colorado in 2012 as one of one hundred prominent women in Girl Scouts at the 100-year anniversary of Girl Scouts. I was a leader for all five levels of Girl Scouts as well as a trainer for new leaders and event planner. I am a lifetime member of Girl Scouts.

I currently volunteer with Adams 14 school district serving on the charter school review team, calendar committee, parent engagement and Unified Improvement Plan committees to mention a few. I serve wherever they need me and have also helped in one of the elementary schools on picture day, dental checkup day and in the school library.

In my church life, I have served as Junior Warden now Bisshops Warden, appointed to the vestry/bishops’ committee several times, currently head of usher/greeters, lead of the counters, Altar Guild, communication committee and publish the weekly enews letter for Intercession, as well as keeping the web page and Facebook media up to date. I have worked on the stewardship campaign for 10 years. Attend church and Faith Formation weekly. I have attended the church convention on several occasions. If there is a need, I am willing to commit in whatever way necessary. I feel the Lord has called me to these ministries.

I am the grandmother of four and great grandmother of six. I enjoy family dinners and holiday celebrations. I am an avid scrap booker and love working in my yard. Also, enjoy camping and trips to our beautiful Colorado Mountains. God has blessed me abundantly.
